NEXT PLAY COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS PILOT RESULTS

Early Insights from the Glenside, Philadelphia & Ardmore Cohort (n = 10)

Why the Pilot Was Created

Why the Pilot Was Created

Why the Pilot Was Created

Next Play launched this pilot to test one idea: that relationship-centered, cliff-aware support can move single-mothers from intention to real workforce action, navigate real workforce and educational pathways.

Cohort Snapshot

Why the Pilot Was Created

Why the Pilot Was Created

The cohort included 10 single-mothers across Glenside, Philadelphia, and Ardmore, PA – navigating childcare, financial pressure, and interrupted pathways while trying to build toward long-term family stability.

Early Pilot Insights

1 month post pilot update

1 month post pilot update

Participants were ready.

What they lacked was structure, guidance, and coordinated support. When that support showed up consistently, movement happened fast – from idea to outreach to concrete next steps.

60% of the cohort is actively engaged in workforce or training pathway progression, showing that structured support and meaningful connections help women move forward faster.

Momentum & Engagement

Early indicators of engagement and momentum included:

  • 100% commitment to the 10-week workforce navigation pilot
  • Participants independently researching workforce programs
  • Early outreach to healthcare and training programs
  • Observable shift from planning to action
  • Increased follow-through after receiving structured support

Career Pathways Emerging

Several participants demonstrated strong interest in healthcare-aligned career pathways and workforce

training opportunities.

  • Medical Assistant (MA) programs
  • Nursing pathways
  • EMT training
  • Workforce certification programs
  • Grant and workforce funding opportunities

Barriers Identified

  • Childcare limitations
  • Ongoing financial pressure
  • Interrupted education pathways
  • Limited workforce guidance and professional networks
  • Difficulty navigating grants, funding, and enrollment systems

Why Cliff-Aware Navigation Matters

For low-income families, career growth can destabilize the very support systems that make it possible. Next Play's cliff-aware approach addresses that directly – pairing workforce guidance with relationship-centered support and stabilization-focused planning to help participants advance without losing ground.

What’s Next

  • Expanding participant support capacity
  • Building stronger workforce and community partnerships
  • Connecting participants to healthcare career pathways
  • Strengthening referral and resource coordination
  • Continuing to evaluate participant engagement and workforce outcomes

UPDATE: 1 MONTH POST PILOT COMPLETION

Just one month out — 60% of the cohort is actively engaged in workforce or training pathway progression.

• 1 participant is pursuing Medical Billing & Coding
• 1 is entering a Phlebotomy training program
• 1 plans to pursue Pharmacy Tech training
• 1 plans to begin an Early Childhood Education apprenticeship
• 1 plans to enroll in a Licensed Practical Nursing program
• 1 is awaiting grant approval

The learning: structured support + real connections = women moving forward fast.
